Hi Fabulous Painters!

The Tale of 2020

December 2020

Greetings Art Lovers and Friends – It has been quite a while since I wrote a newsletter due to the nature of the journey we have all been on this year. Exceptional in every way, some of it good and some of it very difficult. The one thing that is certain is that none of us will ever forget this year of 2020. Many of us will be changed in deep and profound ways by the experience.

For me personally it has been an amazing experience. To start the telling of the Tale of 2020 it began with making the decision to sell my mountain property in Bonny Doon. I had lived on three acres of beautiful redwood acreage on a ridge at 2000 ft. elevation in the Santa Cruz Mountains for over 22 years. During that time I had loved living there despite the frequent dramas of weather and fire. Many of you visited me there. I created my Doon Gallery and hosted numerous art shows and events over the years.

Early this year I felt that I could no longer live with the anxiety that fire season brought every year and I decided it was time to move for my own peace of mind.

Making the decision to sell turned out to be the best thing I could have done and not a moment too soon. Despite the Covid-19 Pandemic my house went on the market and got sold quite easily. I closed escrow in late June 2020. On August 17 the CZU Lightning Complex wildfire roared through the Bonny Doon area and my old house fell victim to its’ relentless passage. I felt so terrible for the new owners and also grief stricken for the loss of my old home. By a stroke of luck and fate I was no longer there to bear the terrible weight of rebuilding and recovery. I am not sure I could have done it on my own in any case. My overwhelming gratitude at being spared this fate continues to resonate within me every day.

Since June I have moved twice and now reside in a lovely home near Monterey. My new studio space is wonderful in every way and I hope to be able to show my art to you here as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime I continue to paint and create new work regularly. I am so grateful to have art (and now music) in my life during this time. It is a place of peace and excitement that never fails to uplift me. I now live even closer to my favorite painting spots such as Point Lobos, Carmel and Big Sur coast as well as the oak studded golden hills just inland in Steinbeck Country.

I regularly post new art work on my Facebook Page of Plein Air Muse and/or Plein Air Muse Creations.

Due to travel being off the list this year I did not visit any new States in my quest to paint in all 50 States – but hopefully 2021 will allow me to resume some travel for this purpose. Hope you are keeping well and sane – things will improve soon! Happy New Year 2021 Suzanne Elliott
