Plein Air Painting - Monthly Painting Project - Paint the Same Scene Once a Month for the Next Year

The idea of painting the same scene each month for a year is something that has been done by many artists - and for good reason.

Painting a familiar scene - preferably close to where you live - each month allows us to meditate upon the changing light, colors and aspect of the landscape. Whether you are into plein air painting or not, this can be a great learning experience for all artists.

Beginners as well as seasoned artists can benefit from this activity.

Since we have worked out the composition problems by many repetitions, it frees us to concentrate on other aspects of a well loved scene. It is also fascinating to see how much a landscape does, in fact, change over a 30 day period.

Check this just completed 12 Month Project - Quail Hollow.

How to Participate in This Monthly Project

1. Decide on your landscape for your monthly painting project.

2. Paint small panels - 5" x 7" or 8" x 10" are recommended. Make it doable and fun.

3. Schedule your painting time

4. Once your monthly painting is done - take a quick digital photo and then post it to this page with a short description of your painting and any story that comes up for you - things that may have happened, how it was for you etc.

5. Wait 30 days, and repeat!

Complete the following form to participate. It will be inspirational and amazing to see what we all produce over the next year.
