Don Cavin -Charlevoix Art Retreat/Workshop in Quebec Province, Canada
July 2 to 9, 2012 - a special five day retreat in Charlevoix, Quebec with Don CavinThis will be a very special event. Charlevoix is a magical location for artists. If you're interested in landscape, seascapes, small towns, rural scenes or soft mountains, Charlevoix won't disappoint. And if you want to move your painting to a whole new level, five-days with Don Cavin will do so. Don will act as a mentor and instructor helping you reach new insights in your painting. Your week in Charlevoix begins Monday evening, after check-in and dinner, with an orientation session and a discussion about locations, reductionism and the art of plein air painting. We begin every morning at 9 am heading off to the first location. You get down to painting right away, taking advantage of the morning light, with Don acting as your personal coach. At noon, Don will give a demo, then it’s lunch, a short break and back to painting for the rest of the day. After dinner Don will lead an informal discussion of our day's work. Each day we have the opportunity to paint at least two great locations. One day is devoted to painting in and exploring Baie St. Paul, a town devoted to the arts. While Don will be demonstrating in acrylic, oil painters as well as water colourists and pastel artists will gain from Don's discussions of values, composition and reducing the plein air scene to abstracted shapes in order to bring an effective composition out of visual chaos. The facilities at the Auberge are clean and simple. Rooms are double occupancy with separate beds. If you wish a room to yourself, that can be arranged, for a premium. Many of the staff at the Auberge and most of the shopkeepers in Baie St Paul speak English. The Auberge has a studio space, in case of inclement weather. All meals are provided so we can concentrate on painting. In our day in Baie St Paul, there is the option of visiting the many galleries as well as painting.
